Urban V. Rawson
NORTH OGDEN – Urban Vincent “Rock” Rawson, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at his home of heart failure.
He was born November 8, 1918 in Farr West, Utah to Urban Hugh and Nellie Davis Rawson. He had out-lived all of his immediate family members. He attended Weber County Schools graduating from Weber High School. He served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Rock married LaRee Folkman on April 2, 1947. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 28, 1964. LaRee preceded him in death on July 12, 1974.
He worked for Defense Depot Ogden for 29 years. Following his retirement, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service and Little Mountain as a security guard.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various capacities including Ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple. He also served for many years as secretary in the High Priest Quorum in his ward.
Rock enjoyed gardening and sharing his garden vegetables and fruits with his neighbors, friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors with his dog.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty (Lee) Stewart, Warren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife LaRee, brothers, Edward, Glen, Alma and Ray Rawson, and sisters, Elvarene Morley, Marjorie Smith and Reta Rawson.
The family would like to thank his neighbors and ward members, with special thanks to Ashel and Faye Mellor for their loving care and kindness toward Rock.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Rick Woods officiating.
