Virgil Jack Larsen passed away July 28, 2024, at the age of 89, of causes incident to age. He was born in Mink Creek, ID to Virgil Junius and Zelda Larsen on April 30, 1935, the second of their four children. He spent his early years in Mink Creek. The family later moved to Preston, ID.
Jack graduated from Preston High School, then served in the US Army in El Paso, TX during the Korean War. Following military service, he attended Utah State University, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. He loved to learn and placed a high value on education.
He started his career working for the State of Idaho. Later he moved his family to Clearfield, UT, where he worked at Hill Air Force Base as a civil engineer for 25 years.
He married his high school sweetheart Judith Symes in the Logan LDS Temple July 6, 1956. Together they had four sons. Judy passed away in October 1988 following a car accident. Jack later met and married Rea Ann Fowler, who passed away in June of 2008 following a prolonged illness.
Jack took great pleasure in golfing with his friends and his sons. He enjoyed watching his boys play sports. He loved to travel the world and to run. He held BYU football and Utah Jazz season tickets. He loved cars, especially his many Nissan “Z’s”. Jack had favorite expressions, like: “If I was doing any better, I couldn’t stand it,” and “Why’d you do that?”. He was quick-witted and had a great sense of humor to the very end. He had many cherished friends throughout his life.
Jack is survived by three sons: Brian (Karen), Long Beach, CA; Bradley (Kimberly), Syracuse, UT and Bracken (Cathy), Fruit Heights, UT. He is survived by his siblings Gayle Harmer, Logan, UT; Diann Sant, Saratoga, CA and Randy (Christy), Logan, UT. He has seven grandchildren: Stockton (Megan), Grace (Austin), Sara, Bronson (Kelsey), Tate, Garrett, and Zoey. He has 1 great-grandson, Nicholas. We will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Zelda, his wives Judith and Rea Ann, his son Brent K. Larsen, and his brother-in-law David Sant.
The family wishes to express their immense gratitude to Aimee Poe and her husband, Greg at Beehive House in Syracuse, to their children Hayden and Savanna Rice, Emmy and Katelyn, and to the entire Beehive House staff who went above and beyond taking wonderful care of Jack these past few months. We also thank Cascade Springs Hospice for their care of Jack and for helping our family through this difficult process.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Lindquist Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South. 2000 West. in Syracuse, UT. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM.
Interment will be in Preston Idaho.
