Val Steven Cox

November 25, 1951 ~ June 11, 2016

Our beloved Val Steven Cox brightened and blessed the lives of many throughout his life. Val was born on November 25, 1951 in Glendale, CA to ElMyrrh Leany Cox and Adele Ransbottom. He passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2016 due to complications with congestive heart failure.

Val spent most of his early years in St. George, Utah where he developed a love for baseball, the outdoors, and the beautiful red-rock scenery of Southern Utah. After his father’s untimely death, his mother relocated the family to northern Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. Val served as a missionary in Northern Argentina for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. After graduating from Weber State University, he married his sweetheart, Lorna Heiner, on August 3, 1977 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He then continued his education at the University of Washington where he studied dentistry, and then the University of Indiana where he specialized in Endodontics. Following school he established an Endodontic practice in Ogden, Utah where he enjoyed serving others until the time of his death.

Val loved the outdoors and especially loved to ski and golf. His greatest joy was his family, for whom he tirelessly sacrificed throughout his life. He loved golfing with his sons, accepting pedicures from his favorite daughter, and sharing a cold root beer float on a hot day. He will always be remembered for his mild manner, integrity, loyalty, Christ-like love, and his corky sense of humor that always made his children smile.

Val is survived by his wife, four children, Michael (Devri), David, Jennica Goff (Zack) and Tyler; as well as his siblings, Vance and Mark Cox; and stepsiblings, Larry Jensen, Peggy Durant, and Linda Gomez. Preceding him in death are his father, ElMyrrh Cox; mother, Adele Ransbottom and stepfather, Jesse Jensen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Shadow Ridge LDS Chapel, 1401 County Hills Dr., Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to the LDS Missionary Fund or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Jerry John and all of those who cared for Val.
