Val Joseph Hancock, 81, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at McKay-Dee Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1929 in West Weber, Utah to Heber John and Laura Mae Blanch Hancock. He lived all of his life in West Weber and attended Weber County schools.
Val was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in all of his callings and had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel. Dad left a legacy of missionary work. He served in the Denmark Copenhagen Mission, and his missionary legacy continues through his children, grandchildren and many others who benefited from his support. On September 3, 1953, he married Margaret Ellen Spendlove in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised seven children along with his youngest brother, Terry. On August 18, 1985, his heart was broken when he lost his beloved Margaret. Eight years later, he met Joan Jenkins Allen, his happiness was renewed the day they were married. They have spent 16 wonderful years together enjoying family, travel and temple work.
Without complaint, any challenge that came his way he faced with faith, courage and dignity. Heaven for dad was found surrounded by his family and his work as a lifelong dairyman. The day was not complete until the last load of hay was hauled and the ground was tilled and planted. The final seeds of this season were sown the day before he passed. He was truly a man of the earth who wanted to wear out not rust out and he went out with his boots on.
The family wishes to thank the many medical professionals who assisted in Val''s care.
Val is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Steve and Annette Hancock, Blair and Susan Hancock, Glen and Shauna Hancock, Brent and Tina Hancock , Stephen and Rebecca Allen, Kim Allen, Brian and Kris Allen, Darin and RaeAnn Allen, Joanne and David Bruce Hobbs, Valorie and Steve Denney, Sharon and Marc Bishop, Lynette and John Gerritsen, Lisa and Wayne Shiramizu; 54 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gene and Lavon, Reed and MaryLou, and Terry and Ronda.
