VALENE DEE ROBINS BAKER
1932 - 2021
Valene Dee Robins Baker of Bountiful, Utah, passed peacefully to her heavenly home at the age of 88 on October 25, 2021, in Murray, Utah at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family. She had endured lung cancer for eight months.
Val was born December 29, 1932, in Scipio, Utah, the daughter of Waldo George and Mary Erda Anderson Robins. Val attended elementary school in Scipio and graduated as valedictorian from Millard High School in 1951. She excelled in school and passed that trait to her children and grandchildren. She attended a year of college at Utah State Agricultural College where she met Nolan Baker. They were married on July 18, 1952, in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they were blessed with three children: Robin, David, and Annette.
Val cherished her time raising and supporting both her children and grandchildren every way she could. She was the bookkeeper for Nolan’s many occupations. Val and Nolan lived 25 years in Edwards and Lancaster, California, then moved to beautiful Vista, California, where they enjoyed living near the beach for 25 years. They spent the last 19½ years in Bountiful, Utah. They have many memories and friends from each place they lived.
Some of Val’s greatest joys were her faith and love of serving others. As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many Relief Society and Young Women callings. Her favorite calling was teaching Mia Maids—she loved the girls so much. She first taught Mia Maids in 1964, and last taught them in 2016 at the age of 83. Val and Nolan served in a Young Adult ward in Vista and served a mission together in a Laos Branch in San Diego. One of the great blessings of her life was serving with Nolan in the Bountiful Utah Temple and serving a mission with him in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple.
Val was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was a friend to many throughout her life. She loved exercising and walking. She had many walking partners throughout the years—cherished friends that she could walk and talk with and discuss her great love of books. She was known to win fitness competitions against competitive grandchildren, enjoy equally competitive games with game treats, and to keep a spotless home. Fitness and healthy habits were ingrained in her life. When her grandchildren came to visit in Vista, Grandma always had their favorite cereal and fresh squeezed orange juice, coloring books and crayons, and a trip to the orchard/gardens to pick something delicious. Trips to the beach with grandma and grandpa are also special memories.
Val is survived by her husband of 69 years, Nolan; daughters Robin Thomas, Annette Clark (Dwight) and son David Baker (Cynthia); 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her older brother, Ronald (Lucille-deceased), and younger brother, Morris (Jackie). She is loved by all who knew her and will be remembered eternally in many hearts.
