Valerie Jean Sevillier Stites, 77, passed away on January 23, 2016 from lung disease. She was born on February 12, 1938 to Kathryn Hitt and Mario Jean Sevillier in Long Beach, CA. She spent most of her early childhood in Oregon. When her father passed away in 1948 she and her mother moved to Ogden to be closer to family.
Valerie graduated from Ogden High School in 1955. She married Harold E. Stites on January 1, 1955. They raised four children. Valerie was a volunteer at St. Benedict’s Hospital for numerous years. She also spent many years working at Thessco, Inc., the family business.
Valerie enjoyed playing bridge for over 30 years with the same ladies. Her interests included bowling, playing cards, being with family (especially the grandchildren), and playing games on the computer. She was an avid reader. Having a dog or two in the home was always important to her. Valerie enjoyed her home and yard and liked spending time there.
Valerie is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Kathie (Gene) Harvey, Debbie (David) Peterson, Scott Stites, and Rich (Sherrie) Stites; a very special friend, Bob Stevens; 8 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents.
It was Valerie’s wishes to be cremated and to have no traditional funeral or viewing. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
