Syracuse - Vance Tree Bennett left his ailing earthly body Monday January 21, 2013 for a much better place. He was surrounded by his loving family which was his favorite place to be. He was born April 7, 1934 in Ogden Utah. He grew up in Syracuse, attended Davis County schools, moved to Sunset in 1961, and then after 35 years returned to his home town of Syracuse which is where he always felt he belonged. On December 5, 1952 he married his sweetheart, Kathryn. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary.

He began his construction career working for Dale Smedley Construction. Some of his biggest accomplishments were helping to build the original causeway to Antelope Island and construct Whitney Reservoir, which became a favorite fishing spot of ours in the Uintahs.

He formed his own company in May of 1977, Vance Bennett Construction. He loved hard work, running the family farm with his brother Norm, fishing, hunting, and family camping trips. He was as strong as a work horse and could jury rig anything. Some of our greatest memories are of things he has put together from spare parts, bailing twine was his best friend. He had a tough exterior for such a big heart.

He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn, four children Randy (Sharon) Bennett, Hooper, Lisa (Mark) Jones, Taylor, Melinda (Jim) Haycock, Syracuse, David (Dawn) Bennett, Syracuse. He has 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren that brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brother Norman (Carol) Bennett, Syracuse.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elton John and Lena Ruth Tree Bennett and brother Claude Elton Bennett.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at the Syracuse Trailside Ward 2887 W. 2700 S. from 4:00 to 5:30 and the family would love for you to come and share your memories.
