Vaughn Gordon Howes

January 19, 1946 – December 5, 2019

Vaughn passed away on December 5, 2019 with his loving wife Barbara, of 32 years, and his brothers by his side.  He was born in Delta, UT, the first child of Gordon and Thelma Nielson Howes of Roy, UT.  He was raised in Roy along with his siblings Teresa, Kerry, Mark and Scott and was a long time resident of Layton, UT.  Vaughn was 73.

Vaughn graduated from Roy High School.  He was in the Army Reserve for nine years.  He was attending Weber State when he was selected to attend an avionics technical school sponsored by the USAF.  This led to a 42 year career with the Air Force where he received numerous recognition and performance awards.

Vaughn was very artistic and enjoyed freehand drawing and drafting.  He was a highly skilled mechanic and had a passion for cars, jets and trains.  He was also a talented woodworker and could make something old and worn out look new again.  Putting puzzles together or assembling model cars and planes were some of his favorite hobbies.

Some of his fondest childhood memories were when he and his sister stayed on their grandparent’s  (Nielson) farm in Oak City.  He enjoyed family gatherings, dancing and going to car shows with his brothers.  Camping was a favorite activity with family along the northern CA coast, walking along Agate Beach and having a hearty lumberjack style breakfast at the Samoa Cookhouse.  He had many happy times at the Callaghan Cabin,

He had eight children and two step-children, who he loved and cherished.  He had seven grandchildren who added a special joy to his life and a son and daughter-in-law who were like his own.  He had an extended family of 11 sisters-in-law, 11 brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
