Veldon L.Wilde
Bountiful- Beloved husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Veldon Lawrence Wilde, age 76, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2007 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications of cancer.
Born, March 12, 1931 in Carey, Idaho to Lawrence Edric Wilde and Sadie Dilworth. He helped manage the family sheep and cattle ranch during his youth.
He served an LDS mission in the Northern States Mission from 1951-1953. He married Elaine Genevieve Pugmire on Dec. 21, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of eight children. A 1957 graduate of BYU with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, he worked for Sperry Rand (Univac) for 31 years, designing many innovative technical advances resulting in 10 patents. He was part of a project team that built the first computer in Utah.
Divorced in 1979, he married DeAnn Barlow Walker on August 17, 1981 in the Salt Lake Temple. She brought five children to the family. Together they served an LDS Mission to Chennai, India in 2002-03.
He was a faithful member of the LDS Church holding numerous calling including 25 years as a Temple Veil and Ordinance Worker, Ward Clerk, Elder’s Quorum President, Seventies Quorum President, Young Men’s President, Blazer Scout leader, Primary teacher and Manager and Coordinator of the Utah Honey Plant. He had a great testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This was exemplified in the service he rendered in many capacities in the church and to the people in India.
He is survived by his wife, DeAnn Barlow Wilde, his daughters, Camille Kitterman (Keith), Kaysville; Rozanne Young (Scott), Houston, TX; Cheryl Crowther (Don), Racine, WI; Eileen Montgomery (Les), Corona, CA; Annette Taylor, Layton; Susan Mangelson (Gary), Dublin, OH and Mary Jo Bergman (Dean), Woodstock, GA; his son, Lawry Veldon Wilde (Lisa), Idaho Falls, ID, stepchildren, Barbara Johnson (Brian), Bountiful; Brian Walker (Gaylene), West Bountiful; Michele Montgomery (David), Bountiful; Kathy Smith (Scott), Ferndale, WA and Kyle Walker (Casey), Corona, CA; 61 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his three brothers, Edric, Luzell and Myron.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mueller Park 3rd Ward, 1825 South 850 East, Bountiful. Friends and family may call Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Saturday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment: Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West.
