Layton - Velma Elizabeth Kunzler Barlow passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in Morgan, Utah. She was born December 15, 1916, to William Jacob and Annie Atherley Kunzler of Park Valley, UT.

She married I. Haven Barlow in the Mesa Arizona Temple on May 17, 1938. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2005. Velma attended school in Henrieville, UT and Santa Monica, CA.

She was active her entire life in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and she enjoyed serving in many church callings including Layton 2nd Ward Relief Society and Primary Presidencies, Homemaking Leader, Primary teacher, and later in life she served for six years as the Compassionate Service leader. She supported her husband faithfully in all his church service. Velma worked many years as a cook for Davis County School District. She also served as Layton Elementary School PTA President, Layton Literary Club President, and Kaysville Senior Citizen volunteer for many years, preparing delicious meals for seniors that were often much younger than she.

Velma was devoted to her family. She served and taught them with unceasing love, kindness, and humor. Velma''s and Haven''s affection and dedication to the needs of their handicapped daughter Marilyn for 37 years was especially remarkable. She was instrumental in creating the first school for handicapped children in Davis County, which Marilyn loved attending for many years. Velma loved family gatherings, especially the annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast and Christmas Party.

Velma is survived by her children: Charles (Laurel) Barlow; Ronald Barlow; Gary (Patricia) Barlow, Yvonne (Brent) Halls; Son-in-law Thomas Riley, 31 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughters Marilyn Barlow and Velma Riley, daughter-in-law Nancy Young Barlow, twin sister Vivian Ash; sister June Fuller; and half brother Alfred Partner.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Layton Chapel at 2120 West Gentile Street. Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road or on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the West Layton Chapel.

Interment, Kaysville Cemetery.
