Velma Jean (Forney) Dallinga

November 3, 1925 ~ July 13, 2018

Jean Dallinga passed away peacefully at age 92, on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Peachtree Place in West Haven, Utah.  She was born on November 3, 1925 to John William and Hester Fanny Henderslot Forney in Marquette, Kansas.  She grew up in Bird City, Kansas.

A more giving and charitable woman never lived, always looking out for others and lending a helping hand in any way she could.  She was forever “Big Jean” to her large family and friends.  An outstanding athlete, Jean bowled, golfed, played basketball, and was the long-time captain of the Utah Shamrocks ladies softball team.  She was recognized for her softball skills by being inducted into the Utah Softball Hall of Fame.  During this time, Jean wore many hats in her working life, often overlapping. She worked as a dental assistant, real estate agent, and in the photography department at Hill AFB in Ogden.

Jean owned her own dog grooming business in Aurora, Colorado for many years.  She loved animals and raised an untold number of dogs.  They were her four-legged children and she never kept less than two dogs at any time.  She made lasting friendships everywhere she lived from Bird City, Kansas to Ogden, Utah to Aurora, Colorado and her final residence in Clinton, Utah.  She will be remembered with fondness, admiration, and appreciation by all who knew her.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Willard (Bud) Forney of Tampa, Florida and John (Bill) Forney of Midwest City, Oklahoma.  She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by the Jim Favero family, her adoptive family of over 75 years.

We wish to thank her devoted friend Norma (Casey) Draayer and caregivers Jennifer Chadwick and Tracy Dixon for their loving care.  Also, we are grateful to the staff at Peachtree Place and Bristol Hospice.

As per Jean’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.  Her remains will be interred with her brother Bill in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

Jean would love to be remembered by family, friends and those who loved her with donations to a local Humane Society.
