BRIGHAM CITY a€" Velma Olive Briggs Thompson, 97, died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City, UT.

She was born March 14, 1913 to General Nathan and Elizabeth Jane Cox Briggs, in Arloa, Colorado.

Velma married Ira Edmund Thompson on July 23, 1930 in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served many years as Primary teacher. Her love for children was very evident.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorrene (Darrel-deceased) Jensen, Clearfield; Isabelle (VerNon) Bright, Richmond, UT; Iris (Dan) Short, Yucca, AZ; four sons, Edmund (Cloe) Thompson, Livingston, MT; Ellis (Shirley) Thompson, Klamath Falls, OR; Phillip (Lynn) Thompson, Blackfoot, ID; David Thompson, Orofino, ID; one daughter-in-law, Betty Thompson, Twin Falls, ID; 62 grandchildren; 109 great-grandchildren, 99 great-great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-great-grandchildren with two on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ira, three sons, Robert Thompson, Howard Thompson and Albert Thompson; two daughters, LaRee Thompson and Joyce Johnson; son-in-law, Darrel Jensen; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her parents, four sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.

Family will meet with friends at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.

Interment with graveside services will be held at the Rupert, Idaho Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
