Veneta Mae Horning Wood

July 17, 1942 — May 7, 2023

Veneta Mae Wood, age 80, died May 7, 2023, in Bountiful, due to complications from Diabetes. Veneta was born July 17, 1942, to Adelbert Abner Horning and Florence Mae Tousant Varno in New York. She was raised in Watertown, New York, and graduated from Watertown High

School.

In November of 1960, Veneta married Jack Wynn Wood. She was a convert of the LDS church. They were later sealed in the Mesa AZ temple. Jack was active in the Air Force. They traveled and lived in many states until settling in Roy, Utah where they raised their family. Veneta gained

4 children from Jack’s first marriage, and together they had four children. They later divorced. Veneta was a single mom for many years. Veneta’s kids meant the world to her, and she always did her very best to ensure their happiness and well-being.

Veneta worked for the State of Utah in the Job Service department for 32 years; she loved helping people find work. After retiring, she remained friends with many of her previous co-workers. Veneta also worked 25 years at McKay Dee Hospital in Admission. She was a very

hard worker. Veneta kept in touch with a group of ladies that were special to her (you know who you are). They would get together for lunch and laughs. Veneta loved to plan picnics, BBQ’s, work parties, summer fireworks with family and volleyball games.

Veneta’s hobbies included reading, garage sale hopping, enjoying television shows, movies and card games. She loved the entertainment world and was a bit of a celebrity buff. She was always thinking of others and would find treasures for them on her yard sale hunts. Most of all,

she loved spending time with her family and loved to spoil them, especially the grandkids. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year and she loved to celebrate all of those that she loved. She was a fun Grandma. She was always very forgiving, and always full of hugs.

She is survived by children, James (Tammy) Wood, Jack (Debbie) Wood, Joe (Ruth) Wood, Johnna (Gary) Ashley, Jolinda (Bruce) Johnson, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Additionally her sister Linda Rivers and family of TX

.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brother’s, an infant son, two daughters, and two grandsons.

Our family would like to thank Creekside Senior Living's entire staff for their loving care and friendships. Especially the nurses and kitchen staff. She had 5 wonderful years with the Creekside Community playing Bingo, Crossword, and Jeopardy with friends. Thank you to the

Renew Nurses, especially Marina, CNA's, and Hospice. We are so grateful for your kind care and compassion. A special thank you to Debbie and Lori who loved her very much and cared for her every need.
