Venette H.  Ward passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at her home in Ogden.

She was born April 22, 1923, daughter of Nicholas and Magdalena (Ritsperis) Hohlios. She graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College and George Washington University.

On October 24, 1948, Venette married Allen Q. Warnock. He passed away April 12, 1958. She later married Elmer H. “Bear” Ward on January 20, 1967, in Las Vegas, NV. He passed away March 26, 1996.

She started her Civil Service career January 19, 1942, being one of the first employees at Hill Air Force Base, Clearfield, Utah. In 1950, Venette moved to Washington D.C. and worked in the Pentagon as secretary to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. This was the highlight of her career.  She returned to Ogden in 1965 and worked at Defense Depot Ogden and held a key position in the Office of Data Systems. She retired after 32 years. She received many outstanding performance awards including the Defense Supply System Distinguished Service award.

Venette served as President of the DDO Officer Wife’s Club, President of the Brigham City Ladies Golf Association, and on the Board of the Ogden Philoptochos Society. She was a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club and Brigham City Golf and Country Club. She volunteered for many hours at St. Benedict’s Hospital and Brigham Community Hospital.

Venette was a lifelong member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.

Venette is survived by Elmer’s daughter, Sharon (Fred) Hunsaker of Logan; and Elmer’s son, Stephen (Brenda) Ward of Kaysville; five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Georgia Sentkowski of Bellingham, WA; sister-in-law, Georgia K. Hohlios of Clearfield, UT; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 674 42nd Street, Ogden. The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with a Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

Memorial contributions in her honor are suggested to the church.
