Venice Poll

Venice Slater Poll

July 4, 1927- June 27, 2018

Venice Dorelyn Slater Poll, our beautiful mother, was born to John Lawrence and Sarah Ann Tracy Slater, the 14th of 14 children. Following a valiant and gracious battle with cancer, she passed away June 27, 2018, one week prior to her 91st birthday.

She was born, raised, and worked on the family farm in Marriott, attended Weber County Schools, and graduated from Weber High School.

She married LeRoy H Poll September 9, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Together they have seven children, 28 grandchildren, and 61 great-grandchildren. She was also blessed with five step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. Except for a short stint in Clearfield, and five years in northern California, they raised their family in South Weber where she was named “Mother of the Year” in 2000.

Her goal in life was to be a homemaker and care for her husband and children.  We were blessed to have an amazing mother who excelled in that goal. Mom greeted her extended family most every Sunday evening with a gathering that sometimes numbered dozens, serving a homemade dessert each time.

Venice was an active member of the LDS Church where she served faithfully in many callings.  For several years she also did German extraction and was a temple worker.  She loved her Savior and lived a Christ-like life.

She is survived by six of her children, Sandra (Dee) Burton, Doris (Lamar) Gubler, Craig (Jackie), Scott (Peggy), Michael (Debby), and Tamara Williams (Lynn) Glauser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son Gary (Jill), son-in-law Robert Williams, two grandchildren Colby and Lucas Gubler, her parents, 13 siblings and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Weber 1st Ward Chapel, 1375 E. South Weber Drive, South Weber.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
