OGDEN - Vera Eschler Eccles age 79, lifelong resident of Ogden passed away at her home with her children by her side on Saturday April 24, 2010 after a courageous battle with several illnesses, incident to age.
She was born to Victor William Eschler and Ruby Jessop in Ogden, UT. on March 26, 1931. She graduated from Ogden High School and the Richard Stephens Modeling School. She attended Winona School of Professional Photography, and studied Montessori Education with Dr. Alfred Tomatis in Canada. Vera had a natural talent as a seamstress and at one time supported herself making wedding dresses.
She married J. Benjamin Rudd, they were later divorced. She married John D. Eccles, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.
She is survived by her two children David A. V. Eccles, Ogden; and Sarah E. (Gary) Taylor of Bountiful. Also surviving are her sisters Rose (Richard) Hall of Bountiful; and Lois Martin of No. Ogden; as well as sister-in-law Ruth Eschler of Clinton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alexander, Joshua, Nathan, and Samantha Taylor all of Bountiful; stepchildren, their spouses, children and grandchildren. Also surviving are several foster children including Regina Thompson, N.M.; Zuhayla (Brian) Hains, Jewel (Rick) McCloy and Diana (Cal) Hadley all of Ogden; Chiaki Ohama, Japan; and many other foster children, and grandchildren. A very dear aunt Allie Fors as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive her.
Vera was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings during her lifetime, including the Young Women''s, Relief Society, and Primary organizations as well as Activities Chairman for over 8 years. Most recently she served as Gospel Doctrine teacher in the Sunday School organization. Vera and John served together for 8 years as missionaries for the pageant "A Promise Kept" on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. She loved serving in the Church and the relationships she made there.
Vera was community minded and over the years was involved in many associations and organizations including; The Young Republicans, Ogden Drama Club, Eccles Community Art Center, Utah Musical Theater, Weber State University, Evergreen International, Montessori Tree of Life and Sandcastle Academy Private Schools as well as the John D. & Vera E. Eccles Family Foundation.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents, older sisters Ellen (Dan) Kunz, and Sarah Beth Eschler, as well as her brother Melvin J. Eschler.
Vera lived her life by the motto "Because I have been given much, I too must give." She dedicated her life to caring for, loving, and serving others.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Forrest Green Ward Chapel, 1401 Country Hills Dr. Ogden.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Friday at the Ward Chapel from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to Dr. Hamid Mian and the nurses and staff of Liberty Dialysis center, Dr. Gregory Almony and the nurses and staff of Utah Cardiology, Dr. Vincent Hansen and the nurses and staff of Utah Hematology Oncology, the nurses and staff of Ogden Regional Medical Center unit #3, and the nurses of Access Homecare and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary or Humanitarian Service Funds.
