Vera Swan Leonard Powell

May 17, 1927 ~ October 21, 2017

Vera Swan Leonard Powell, 89, of Ogden, Utah passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017 in St. George, Utah.  She was born on May 17, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George and Clara (Christiansen) Swan.

Vera married Donald M. Leonard on November 25, 1946. They had two sons, Donald and Gilbert. After her husband passed, she raised her two boys by taking on the role of sole provider. She later met Donald F. Powell and they were married on June 16, 1972 in Washoe, Nevada. They combined their families and she became a mother to Don, Susan and Patty.

Vera was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  in South Ogden, as well as a Daughter of Utah Pioneers. She had an amazing sense of humor and a kind spirit. She enjoyed sewing, shopping with the girls, and playing bridge. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing for her family and friends, church events, and at the visitor’s center of McKay Dee Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara Swan; husbands, Donald M. Leonard and Donald F. Powell; siblings, Edna Long (Mc Donald), Ruth Pack (Swan), and Claire Georgia Bramble (Swan), grandson, Joseph G. Leonard. She is survived by her children, Donald M. Leonard (Karen), Gilbert S. Leonard (Debbie), Don (Pat) Powell, Susan Powell Pelzel, Patty (Dennis) McIntire, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank Don and Karen for providing Vera with a warm, sunny home where she could be comfortable. We also want thank Encompass Hospice for their care and support.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Linduqist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
