Verl J Bastian
PLAIN CITY - Verl J Bastian, 81, serenely returned home on Thursday, March 18, 2010. Born April 17, 1928 in Vermillion Utah, he has been married to his loving wife Mavis T. Bastian for 57 years. After fulfilling an LDS mission in the East Central States, he remained very active in the Church, having held various positions, including many years as a Ward and Stake Clerk. Verl served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, and later retired after 30 years at Morton Thiokol. Dad was a "doer." He spoke little and loved a lot. He passionately focused his time on his family, camping and scouts, many friends, and giving away many wood creations. He and Mom proudly produced a whole bunch of temple marriages, missionaries, and eagle scouts. Because of his quick thinking and understanding, he saved the life of a 7-year old nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Madge Bastian, his eldest son, Rick, and two grandchildren, Travis and Desiree Bastian. He is survived by his wife Mavis; his children: Rick''s wife (KayeLynn) Bastian, Dan (Debbie) Bastian, Jeany (Jeff) Campbell, Ken (Karen) Bastian, Jerry (Kelley) Bastian, Randy (Michelle) Bastian, 25 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m., at the Plain City 3rd Ward Chapel, 4630 W. 2150 N. Family will greet friends at the Ward Chapel on Monday, March 21st from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 9 to 10 a.m. Interment and graveside services will be held at the Aurora, Utah Cemetery, at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. The Salina American Legion Post #36 will provide military honors. Funeral Directors, Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary. Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
