Verl T Dahl

May 18, 1925 ~ October 8, 2016

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Verl Dahl returned to his heavenly home on October 8, 2016 at the age of 91.

He was born and raised in Syracuse, UT to Earl and Evaline Dahl, the second of five sons.  He graduated from Davis High School and worked on the family farm before serving an LDS mission to California/Southern Arizona from 1947-1949, where he met and later married Adora Kidman on November 3, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  He worked at Hill Air Force Base before retiring early to care for Adora who died of cancer in 1987.  He later was married to Millie Hogge for 12 years before she passed away in 2000.  He has been married to Donna Parker since 2002.

Verl was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in numerous callings including Scoutmaster, Bishopric Counselor, Stake Clerk and Stake High Council.  He was a faithful home teacher and enjoyed taking his sons with him to fulfill this responsibility.  Besides mission service as a young man, he later served a Temple Mission in South Africa with his second wife Millie.  He attended the temple often to render this service throughout his life.

Verl enjoyed civic activities where he served on the Syracuse City Planning Commission for several years and volunteered to build the Syracuse Museum chicken coop using actual materials from the old Dahl family coop.  He loved children and often volunteered as one of “Santa’s helpers” for numerous community and family Christmas parties.

Verl enjoyed fishing, travelling, gardening, and sang for many years in the Men of Song Choir.  He was a talented craftsman who could build anything, and especially enjoyed making toys for his kids and grandkids.  He will always be known for his honesty, kindness, good nature and sense of humor.

Verl is survived by his wife, Donna, Syracuse, UT,  4 children: Verlynn Kay (Craig) Hess, Layton, UT;  Tonya (K.O.) Murdock, Layton, UT;  Brett (Debbie) Dahl, Helena, MT;  Kim (Lisa) Dahl, North Ogden, UT;  14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two brothers Sheldon and Devon Dahl.  Children through later marriages include Mike Hogge, Marti Wohlgemuth, Melinda Robbins, Scott Parker, Dorothy Cummings, Edward Parker, Carrie Wayment, Dana Dabb, Guy Parker and their families.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Lamont, wives Adora and Millie, and two brothers Lloyd and Van Dahl.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the Memory Care Staff at Fairfield Village of Layton, Specialty Nursing, AMG Medical and Inspiration Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they showed to him and his family the past two years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Center Ward Church, 2228 South 1660 West, Syracuse.  Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
