1928 - 2021

Verl W. Jensen, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend left this earth peacefully on April 3, 2021 after fulfilling his bucket list and living a rewarding and wonderful life. Dad was born in Milburn, Utah on September 21, 1928 the fifth of seven children to Wilford Moroni and Eva LaVern Jensen. He was raised on the family farm, attended elementary and junior high in Fairview, and graduated from North Sanpete High School in the class of 1946.

Dad decided that the life of a farmer was not for him at a young age, and he began working at Hill Air Force Base in 1947. He served two tours of duty with the United States Air Force in 1949 and then again in 1951 with the 191st Fighter Squadron during the Korean War. He returned to work at HAFB after the completion of his military service and worked 36 dedicated years, retiring in 1983. While working at HAFB, Dad graduated from Weber State College, simultaneously raising a family and working a full and various part-time jobs to support his wife and children.

While returning from his first active duty assignment, Dad was riding the bus from Salt Lake City to Fairview when he happened to sit by Anna Lee Cox, a beautiful “Fairview girl” he had known since the first grade. She immediately won his heart, and they were married in Fairview on November 18, 1950. They were just about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary when Mom passed away on April 8, 2015. Dad was devasted and lost when his sweetheart left him, and his loss was indescribable. In Dad’s later years his greatest calling in life was taking care of our Mom as her health declined. He was Mom’s biggest supporter and provided loving and compassionate care for her.

Mom and Dad were blessed with four children; Jeff (Leesa), Sue (Steve Jorgensen), Pat (Jeff Gillette) and Greg (Natalie). Mom and Dad were heartbroken when their oldest son, Jeff, passed away on April 21, 2002 and Dad again had to face the traumatic loss of his youngest son, Greg, on November 29, 2016.

Dad traveled the world in his positions at HAFB and would frequently be away from his family for extended periods of time. When he was not working or traveling for his job, Dad loved to go on family adventures. He loved to boat, camp, hike, snow and water ski and celebrated his 80th birthday skydiving and taking a hot air balloon ride. He was determined to never give up his daily walks or give up driving his car until he was forced to do so.

Mom and Dad loved to travel throughout the United States and Canada and spent several winters in Alabama and Florida. They both very much loved the South. They spent several summers on their Fairview Canyon Mountain Property, and enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness of being surrounded by nature.

Dad was the ultimate “Master Jack of All Trades” and there was nothing he couldn’t fix or build. He was always helping his children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors with a repair or project and enjoyed doing it.

Dad’s health started to decline a couple of years before he passed away, and he made the decision to make Family Tree in West Point his home where he was next door to his brother-in-law, Ned Shelley. We can never fully express our gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Family Tree Assisted Living for all they did for Dad; their resourcefulness and compassionate care during the pandemic made them become his family more than ever. We’d also like to express our sincere thanks to Brio Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided Dad during his final months. Family Tree and Brio – you were all truly Dad’s angels on earth.

Dad is survived by his daughters Sue (Steve Jorgensen) and Pat (Jeff Gillette) as well as daughters-in-laws Leesa Washburn and Natalie Jensen. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren,  52 great-grandchildren, his brother, Bryant Jensen (Joan Levy), and his sister, Gwen (Joe Hanny). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wayne, his sisters Yoland, Vanza and Cleone, his loving wife, Anna Lee Cox Jensen, his oldest son, Jeff, his youngest son, Greg, and his grandson, Cortlan Gillette.

Private family graveside services will be held under the direction of Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
