Verl Ostler Jones
1942—2008
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother returned to his Heavenly Father on January 9, 2008 after a diligent fight against cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by loved ones.
Verl loved his family; he really lit up when his grandchildren were near. He enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, camping and farming. He also loved talking to anyone who would listen. He spent much of his free time reloading and shooting. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves. He retired from Utah Power and Light after 25 years of service and spent his last few years working at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Midvale.
Verl was born on January 4, 1942 to Ivan LeRoy and Gladys Adora Ostler Jones in Murray, Utah. He lived most of his life in South Jordan and recently moved to Layton. He served a full-time LDS mission to South Africa from 1961 to 1963. He married his sweetheart, Donna Webster, on October 9, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. Together they had six children.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities including twice in a bishopric, many times in the Young Men’s organization including twice as a Scoutmaster, and Seventy’s group leader and stake missionary. He also served in the Salt Lake City Inner-City Mission with his wife as his companion.
He is survived by his wife, children Alan V. (Janalee) of Layton; Jennifer Palmer (Michael) of Rexburg, ID; Julie A. Grover (Tracy) of Spokane, WA; Natalie Knight (Jim) of Kaysville; Mark I. (Autumn) of Rexburg, ID; Scott L. (Cristin) of Saratoga Springs; 16 grandchildren; sisters Shirla McCleary (Jerry) of Salt Lake City and Sue Butterfield (Roger) of South Jordan and a brother Dave Molotchick (Kerri) of South Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ivan Blaine Jones and a sister Arlene Maxfield.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the South Jordan Country Park Stake Center, 2247 West 11400 South, in South Jordan, UT. Friends and family may call Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9 to 10:30 at the Stake Center.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
As a family we would like to thank Dr. Vincent Hansen and his staff at McKay-Dee Hospital and Marie, Tonya and the staff of Vista Care Hospice for the excellent care given to him in the last few months of his life.
