Verla June Walker Ellis
March 25, 1927 ~ July 3, 2016
Verla June Walker Ellis, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed from this life and into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 3, 2016, attended by family members.
Born on March 25, 1927, in Inkom, Idaho, Verla was a welcome addition to the pioneering family of Vera May Hendricks and Lorin Lyman Walker, the youngest of their ten children.
She is survived by seven of her eight children and their spouses, Raedeen and Jim Brower of Roy, Utah; Kerry and Debbie Ellis of Orem; Utah, Shayla and Owen Daniels of Malad, Idaho; Darris and Cindy Ellis of Chubbuck, Idaho; Kim and Debbie Ellis of Caldwell, Idaho; Tamra and Jeff Scott of Pocatello, Idaho; and Lorinda and Seth Seamons of Malad, Idaho. She and her husband Wayne had 34 grandchildren and 131 great-grandchildren.
Verla was preceded in death by her devoted and sweet companion, Wayne Louis Ellis, 19 years ago, who she missed terribly; a daughter Ulale, passing at birth; her father, her mother, a brother having passed at birth, and all of her nine siblings and their companions.
She is the last of a great pioneering generation and surely her arrival in the Heavens was cause for great celebration! While those of us left behind shed tears of loss and mourning, we celebrate her reunion with her sweet husband and those she loved while traveling through mortality.
Verla was born and raised in Inkom, Idaho and enjoyed a wonderful childhood. Heartache at the passing of her father, when she was the tender age of five, was a life changing experience. Her widowed mother was left to carry on as she reared her large family. As the youngest child of a widowed mother during the depression, Verla learned and practiced hard work, industry and thrift from her childhood and throughout her life. She attended Inkom High School and later received a Secretarial Certificate from Idaho State Technology School. Verla married Wayne Louis Ellis May 14, 1944; working hard and finishing high school during the 3 1/2 years he served in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon his return, they were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and began raising their own large family.
Verla was admired as an outstanding homemaker. Her industry produced homemade meals her children continue to praise. She raised an acre garden each year; canning, and working longer and harder than anyone and teaching her children to do the same. She was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served 30 years in the scouting program and also served and taught in the children's, and women's organizations of the Church. She faithfully researched family history for her many progenitors. She and Wayne served three missions and 7 1/2 years as workers in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Roy Central Stake Center, 4524 South 2525 West, Roy, UT. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello, ID at 3 p.m. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
