Verla Raymond

Verla Elizabeth Lamb Raymond

Verla was born March 13, 1936 in Ogden, Utah to DeVerl and Elizabeth Woolley Lamb.  Verla returned home to her Father-in-Heaven after a battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) on Saturday, July 30, 2016.  She was surrounded by her family and those that loved her as she quietly left this life to be received by those who had gone before her. Verla was a graduate of Morgan High School and had attended Weber State College where she met the love of her life while playing cornet in the college band.  They were married June 8, 1956 in the Logan Temple and they had just celebrated 60 years of marriage together.  She and Dad moved to Fruit Heights after dad finished college where they resided for 54 years together, raising their family and gaining cherished friends along the way.  They spent the last two years together gaining new friends and a lasting love for each other in their home in Syracuse.

Verla was preceded in death by her parents, DeVerl and Elizabeth Woolley Lamb, her in-laws Samuel and Mildred Anderson Raymond, and Great Grandchild Gracie Noel Webster.  She is survived by her loving husband Farrel Gene Raymond, (sister) Carolyn Peterson, (brother) Royal and Mary Lamb, (brother) Jerald and Pat Lamb, (son) Vaughn Allen and Judi Raymond of Fruit Heights, (daughter) Susan Raymond and Todd Webster of Fruit Heights, (daughter) Nancy Raymond and Rick Dean of Syracuse, (daughter) Sheryl Raymond  and Wade Flint of Washington, Utah.  She has 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many honorary grandchildren who were taken under her wing.

Our mom was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many ways, some known and some quietly unknown.  She had a great love and passion for Genealogy.  She spent countless hours indexing and loved every minute of it.  She took such care in researching and gathering names of those who had passed before her and we are certain that many were waiting to embrace her for the work she did.   Not only did she help those beyond this life but she spent countless hours making sure those around her felt loved and accepted.  She and our dad took in many who needed a place to feel of that love and a place of belonging.  Next to genealogy she loved her calling to be a visiting teacher.  She had a special love for those she visited.  She had a way of drawing you in and quickly making you her new friend.

All of these loves set aside, her family was her greatest love.  Though she loved her own children we think she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren even more.  She loved family gatherings and parties.  She waited anxiously to get us all together to celebrate any occasion but mostly Christmas.  She had a special love for her Savior and loved what the Christmas season brought into her life.  Many that knew her will let you know she prepared for it all year long.

She was a devoted Jazz fan and though they didn’t know it, we think she secretly adopted them into our family.  She had a passion for bowling and bowled into her 70’s.  As you can tell she lived an incredible life and we as her family know it was hard for her to leave it.  We are all grateful for the influence she has had in our lives, but mostly our Dad who will miss her dearly.  We are all grateful for the knowledge that she is not far and has an ever watchful eye over us.  Until we meet again mom know you are loved and missed.

We would like to express our gratitude for so many who gave such great care and loving diligence to her battle with this disease.  Some of those include her oldest daughter Susan Webster, granddaughter Brittnee Webster, granddaughter Alyssa Dean, adopted granddaughter Hannah Bruner, and the gentle nurses of Independence Hospice.
