Verla LaRee Salkield was born August 18, 1928 in Driggs, Idaho to John Benjamin (Ben) and Hattie Spendlove Salkield. Verla is the youngest of 13 children. She played on her High School Basketball team and after graduation went to LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. After college she went to work in a bank as a key punch operator. She worked for several banks in Salt Lake, Denver, CO, in Florida and retired from BofA in California.
While in Denver she joined the Marines on September 19, 1955 and served three years being discharged September 18, 1958. She spent two weeks training in Camp Legeune, NC.
After retirement she settled in Salt Lake City and spent time with her sisters Margie and Leah. They could be found all over town have a great old time.
She was Humanitarian projects director for her stake for many years. In 2014, her health in decline, she moved to Kaysville where she lived with a nephew until her death following a bad fall.
Verla was preceded in death by two brothers and nine sisters. She is survived by one sister, Reta (Vern) Wood of Rupert, ID.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may visit family Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
