Vern E. Barker
OGDEN - Our loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend, Vern Elwin Barker, passed away in Ogden on Monday, September 29, 2008, of cancer.
He was the son of Charles Newman and Elizabeth Howell Lee Barker, born in North Ogden, Utah on July 11, 1926.
He married Gloria Ann Price on September 30, 1954, in the Logan LDS Temple.
Vern was raised in North Ogden and lived his entire life in the Ogden area. He served two years with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and spent several months in Germany during his tour.
Vern dearly loved his family. He spent many hours playing with his grandchildren and working in his yard. He was a good friend and neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him.
Vern is survived by his children, two sons and one daughter, Raun C. (Mandy) Barker, Syracuse; Darren T. Barker, Salt Lake City; Deanne (Ken) Jensen, North Ogden; six grandsons and one granddaughter, David, Brian and Shaun Barker; Nicholas, Alex, Jordan and Kobe Jensen.
Also surviving are one brother and two sisters, Ruel (Katherine) Barker, Harrisville; Lorraine (Paul) Arvonen, California; Arlene Likens, Kaysville; brother-in-law, Denny Hansen and niece, Ria Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Ann Barker, his parents, two brothers, Floyd “Chick” Barker and Gilbert Barker, two sisters, Bernice Clawson and Clarice Hansen, five half-brothers and two half-sisters.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to Community Nursing Services for their compassion and caring during Vern’s illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may visit with loved ones at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
