Vern Franklin Koldewyn

RIVERDALE a€" On Saturday, June 19, 2010, our beloved Patriarch, Vern Franklin Koldewyn, 87, passed away.

He was born February 26, 1923 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Clement D. and Agnes Marguerite Greenwell Koldewyn.

Vern graduated from Weber High School in 1941 where he joined the Radio Club, which peaked his interest in electronics. He attended specialized training through Weber State College where he learned skills as an aircraft electrician. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on October 30, 1942. He joined the 756th Bomber Squadron of the 456th Bomber Group in the 15th Air Force at Stornara Air Base, Italy. He was honorably discharged October 16, 1945.

He married the love of his life, Virginia Mary Hewitt, on March 20, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised three children.

Vern and his brother Robert joined a partnership (Koldewyn Radio and TV Repair) in Ogden. After retiring in 1986, Vern was employed by Schneiter''s Riverside Golf Course where he worked as an electrical and sprinkling system tech retiring in 2007.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served faithfully in many ward and stake callings. He was a member of the Riverdale 2nd Ward. He and his wife Virginia served faithfully in the LDS Inner-City Ogden Mission. He had great faith in the Priesthood, which he honored and magnified. He loved to help and serve others.

Vern was a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening, rabbits, making stained glass, ceramics, bee keeping, potted plants, singing, guitar, boating, camping, hunting, and water skiing. He was an avid carpenter and built several homes. To list everything that Vern has done to inspire others, from his gardening skills to the delicate and precious way he treated his wife, would be a monumental task forcing the extinction of forests if ever put to paper.

He is survived by his wife Virginia, daughter Connie (Phillip) Paskett, Ogden; son Lee (Mary Lou) Koldewyn, Tremonton; daughter Kay (Todd) Cummings Ogden; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and brother Robert Koldewyn, Ogden.
