Vern R Goodey

Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa passed away on December 28, 2023, just a few days shy of his 79 th  birthday. He was born January 1, 1945 to Alma and Bernice Goodey in Clarkston, UT.

He graduated from North Cache High School in 1963. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas before returning home and continuing his education at Utah State University where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. 

He married his wife Janet on October 6, 1967, in the Logan temple. They were married for 56 wonderful years. They had five children, 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He taught History and Geography at South Ogden Jr High for 32 years. He was a well-loved teacher by all his students. Whenever he would run into anyone he taught in school, he would always remember their name no matter how many years had passed. Without fail they would say he was their favorite teacher. He worked hard and had two jobs most of his life and instilled a strong work ethic in his kids.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Jazz games and The Price is Right, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grand kids. He always supported them and was willing to pick them up from school, take them to appointments, or sports activities.

He was a kind and gentle man, always a peacemaker and looking out forever one’s wellbeing, even in his last days when he wasn’t well. 

Vern is survived by his wife: Janet and five children: Kimberly Bodily (Del), Kamila Cowley (Paul), Devery Goodey (Melissa), Brence Goodey (Carrie), and Kristen Holmes (Jason).

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 1 pm at Clarkston Cemetery.

He will be terribly missed until we meet again.
