Vern Keller Wood 72, of Layton passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018, due to complications from a recent illness. He was born November 27, 1945, the son of Merlan and Dores Wood, in Brigham City, Utah.
Vern was raised in Tremonton, Utah and later moved to Challis, Idaho. He has many great stories about growing up in these small towns and would share them with everyone he met. Vern was very proud of his 6 years of service in the U.S. Army and was a life-long patriot who loved his country. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 34 years of service as an NDI Inspector, where he had the opportunity to travel the world learning about and inspecting many different airplanes.
He married Sylvia Weight the spring of 1972, with whom he had 2 children, Buffy and Paul, they were later divorced.
On August 1, 2002 Vern married Julie Ray Harmer. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 2, 2013. They loved to travel and spent many happy days in Yellowstone searching for anything and everything. Together they served as Service Missionaries at the Layton LDS Home Storage Center.
Vern loved to drive, putting many miles on his truck. He also loved trains, planes, woodworking, camping, family history, wildlife, photography, and telling stories. He always had a story to tell or an experience to share. His family and friends meant the world to him. Vern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His love of the Gospel was rekindled in recent years, and he loved serving others when he could and spending time with members of the ward.
Vern is survived by his wife, Julie; Children: Buffy (Samuel) Walker, Paul M. Wood; Step-children: Clint (Jennifer) Harmer, Candice Harmer; nine grandchildren; and his three sisters: Dorlyn Ramsdale, Rella Olsen and Zella Rosenbach. He was preceded in death by his parents.
