Dean S. Arave, 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Ogden Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Verna F. Suiter Arave, 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Ogden Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Dean was born August 1, 1925 to Eugene and Lilley Simpson Arave in Hooper, Utah where he spent his childhood.
Verna was born October 1, 1927 to John Floyd and Manita Flint Suiter in Hooper, Utah where she spent her entire childhood.
Dean served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from June 1943 to April 1946. He was a naval navigator on the U.S.S. Ocklawaha as a Quarter Master 2nd Class.
Dean and Verna were childhood sweethearts and were married on July 3, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had three daughters and one son.
They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and both served in many positions. Dean served three years in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple and a mission in the California Roseville Mission with his wife Verna. Verna served as a teacher, Young Women’s President in the ward and stake, Ward Relief Society President and both served a short Stake Mission in the Layton Hills Stake.
Dean was very easy going and liked by all who knew him. He was very service minded and was always willing to help his family, friends and neighbors. He liked a clean house and nice yard and was very adept at fixing, repairing or building things. He enjoyed woodworking projects and built many items used and enjoyed by his family. He enjoyed yard work, swimming, spoiling his wife, and spent many hours reading. He especially loved The Book of Mormon. His wife and family were very important to him.
Verna loved old movies and good music. She loved reading the scriptures, and had a firm testimony of The Savior and the Book of Mormon. She was very organized and meticulous. She loved traveling and taking pictures. She enjoyed ceramics, needlework, sewing and cooking. She worked many hours on family histories and scrapbooks.
Verna retired from Zions Bank in Salt Lake City after 27 years service as Trust Bookkeeper, Trust Accountant, and Trust Auditor Consecutively. As part of the Trust Auditor’s job requirements she attended schools and classes at Universities throughout the United States and graduated with distinction from Northwestern University National Trust School in Chicago.
Dean and Verna loved their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their extended family, friends, neighbors and their wonderful caring ward members and they would wish to thank you all, for all you have added to their lives.
Surviving are three daughters, Christine (Lloyd) Adams of Lewiston, Utah; Kathleen (Larry) McCurdy, Cedar Valley, Utah and Jody Arave, Sandy, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Dean was preceded in death by his son Russell John, parents, five brothers, five sisters and twin granddaughters.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, son Russell John, parents, one brother, one sister and twin granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Hills Ward, 2300 N. University Park Blvd., Layton. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N o. Fairfield Road and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Hooper City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Services or the Primary Children’s Medical Center.
