Verna Montgomery Hess

October 19, 1922 ~ August 28, 2016

Verna Montgomery Hess, 93, passed away on August 28, 2016 at Lotus Park Care Center in West Haven.  She was born on October 19, 1922 in Liberty, Utah to Bessie Rhodes and Hyrum Harvey Montgomery.  She loved Liberty where she was raised with her sister Iris and brothers Lynn and Blaine.

She married the love of her life, Garth E. Hess and together they raised their children, Glenda, Douglas (her favorite), and Dixie.

Mom served many years as a volunteer at Ogden Regional and McKay Dee Hospital where she was President of the Pink Ladies.  She also enjoyed volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Gem and Mineral Society where she and dad were active members.  She was an avid bridge player where she made many long-time friends.

She was the happiest when she and dad took their children and later their grandchildren to the desert looking for treasures, riding the dune buggy and dirt bikes or fishing at the lake.

Verna is survived by her children, Glenda (Carl) Lynn, Doug (Bobbie) Hess, and Dixie (Fred) VanDyke; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Shirley Montgomery.  Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garth Hess; sister, Iris LaFleur; brothers, Lynn and Blaine Montomery; and grandson, David Herrington.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 1 p.m.  at the Liberty Cemetery in Ogden Valley.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

We wish to thank the amazing staff and caregivers at Lotus Park.  Also many thanks to Morgan and Rachel of Hospice for Utah for their loving care of our wonderful mother.

Mom, thank you for the memories, your support, guidance, and unconditional love.  We will miss you always.
