Verna Rhodes

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend Verna B. Rhodes passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 with her loving family by her side. Verna was born on January 10, 1930 in Ordway, Colorado to Frank and Marie Scheidemin English. She lived her life in Colorado, Idaho, and Utah. She graduated from high school and attended Weber State University.

On May 12, 1948 she married William "Bill" Rhodes in Ogden, Utah. They celebrated 54 years of marriage until Bill preceded her in death on August 27, 2002.

Verna was a model and also worked for Bell Mond Dress Shop which she loved doing. She always was "dressed to the nines" her make-up and hair was always done perfectly. She took great pride in looking her best. Verna worked for several accounting firms. She was a senior accountant for Corkey and Corkey, CPA; Neilsen and Bowen, CPA; Bowen and Dahlquist, CPA; and later retiring from Kay L. Bowen, CPA. She did accounting work for Painters Beauty College. Bill and Verna also owned and operated Highway Machine Works.

She had many interests in life; she enjoyed gambling, boating, water and snow skiing and was a member of the Snowbasin Ski Patrol. She loved to golf and was a member of the Ben Lomond Ladies and The Barn Ladies Golf Association where she met her lifelong friends and won many awards. Her greatest joy was spending time shopping with Teri and Bailie. She was also a member of the Ladies Elks (Doe''s).

Verna was happiest when her family was around. She loved her family very much and treasured the time she was able to spend with them. Listening and making them feel understood and important is her legacy.

Verna is survived by her loving daughter, Teri (Mark) Ellison; she had a special relationship with her grandson, Chad who she lived with, and great-granddaughter, Bailie; grandchildren also include Dustin, Nichole and Jennifer and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Barney Barnett and Kit English.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill"; sons, Dusty and Gregory Rhodes; and brother, Vernon Hodge.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. The family would like those that will be attending the Graveside to meet at the mortuary at 10 a.m. for a brief service.
