MOUNTAIN GREEN- On the first day of November in the year 2012, our dear, beautiful mother left her earthly existence and passed into the arms of her Heavenly father and her departed husband and family.

Verna Althea Bybee Rollins was born January 4, 1920 at home in Uintah to Robert Oscar and Mary Elizabeth Goodwin Bybee. She was the eighth of ten children and the last surviving member of that union. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in Primary and Relief Society.

She married Harold Bybee Rollins on December 5, 1941 in Malad, Idaho. Their vows were solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1951. Harold and Verna co-owned and operated the S.R. Rollins Family Ranch, where they lived and worked all their married lives. Harold died April 9, 1999.

Growing up in Uintah and attending schools in Riverdale and Morgan, Mother was active in sports and music and loved to roller skate and dance at the Berthana in Ogden. She was a majorette for the Union Pacific Band. She participated in Hawaiian dance reviews with her daughters where she played the ukulele and sang.

She worked for Dr. Joseph Morrell and family and was employed at Bill and Bessie CafAC. in Ogden. Other employers included Union Pacific Laundry, The Wheel CafAC., Kress, JCPenney and ZCMI. She also worked at Browning as a receptionist and Johnson Cleaners in Morgan.

Verna was president of the PTA when Morgan County started the kindergarten program. She had been active in politics and was a co-chairman for the Republican Party.

Mother was a marvelous cook, seamstress, and homemaker. She was always sewing cheerleading and majorette uniforms, school play costumes, and she made two wedding dresses for her daughters. Her dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and pies were divine and praised by all who were lucky enough to sample them. Memories of creamed peas and new potatoes and farm raised beef and lamb still linger in our minds.

Other interests were crocheting, shopping, reading, and spending time with her family. She was constantly meeting the school bus with kids and grandkids. She traveled to Las Vegas, Alaska, Texas, and California with her daughters and families. She loved going to the Big Band dances and took tap dancing lessons.

Her greatest joy was seeing her grandchildren grow and come to visit. She was always wanting to help them and do what she could for them. Her eyes would light up and produce the most beautiful smile when they came to see their GG. She will be greatly missed and she was sorely loved by all of them.

Surviving are her three daughters, Lana Walters, Lynette Patterson, and Patti (Gary) Malmrose; seven grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, four sisters and five brothers, and a son-in-law Earl Patterson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood Creek Ward, 5378 West Old Hwy. Road in Mountain Green. Family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church.

Interment, Mountain Green Cemetery.

We wish to extend our most sincere thanks to Dr. Seth Lewis and to Tammy, Karen, and Jody at Alpine Hospice for their tender loving care of our dear mother.

"On a warm sunny late afternoon with a slight breeze blowing, a tearful, sad departure was being observed. At the same time, there was a loving family reunion in Heaven all the cares of the world fading away and a glorious new experience taking its place. If you believe and wish hard enough you could almost see two images dressed in white walking hand-in-hand up the loop! We will always remember that beautiful smile!"
