Verne Larry Nielsen
Verne Larry Nielsen passed away August 2, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson ’s disease. He was born to Verne L. Nielsen and Marion Larsen Nielsen on December 4, 1948 in Vernal, Utah. He grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ogden High School.
Larry served and LDS mission to Germany and attended Weber State College. He married Cynthia Larsen on September 14, 1972 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Larry worked with his Father in his optometry office for several years until he began working as an optical sales representative covering Utah, Idaho, Montana and parts of Wyoming and Nevada. His favorite part of this job was the friends and relationships he made with the optical and salespeople he met over 25 years.
Larry was a friend to everyone and was known for his boundless generosity and love – he spent his life helping others and always sought to care for others in need. He loved sports, fishing, and the outdoors and consistently sought to share these activities with family and friends. Larry had a great sense of humor, loved jokes, and was the life of the party. He cherished his family and was a great supporter of them in their many activities. Most of all, Larry was a man who loved life and lived it fully.
Larry was a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ and served in many positions from coaching church basketball, teaching, scouting, elder’s quorum presidencies, stake high council member.
Larry is survived by his wife and two sons: James Brandon Nielsen, Harriman, UT and Trent Nielsen, Seattle, WA. His brother Tracy Nielsen (Kami), Layton, UT and his sisters: Jean Nielsen and Nancy Thomson, Salt Lake City. He adored his five grandchildren: Kaden, McCall, Aubrey, Grace and Oaklee.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Northridge Stake Center, 2375 E. 3225 N., Layton. Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the stake center.

Our thanks go out to the doctors, nurses and staff at Ogden Regional Hospital who served him many times over the last 12 years and in his last days. Also, a very special thank you to the aids, nurses, therapists and staff at Caregiver Support Network. They gave more than service, they were his friends and confidants.
