Vernetta (Verna) Meacham Montgomery
On March 31, 2021, another angel received her wings. Vernetta (Verna) Meacham Montgomery peacefully returned to her heavenly home at the age of 83, in Layton, Utah.
Verna was born February 7, 1938, in Yost, Utah, to Ivan Meacham and Celia Dean Wixom. She married Calvin Hill on July 21, 1954. Together they had two daughters, Pamela and Becky before divorcing. Verna married her true love, Edward Donald Montgomery, on October 9, 1961.
Verna deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed nature, camping, fishing, boating, gardening, tole painting, crafting, reading, movies, and antique treasure hunting at swap meets and garage sales. She was feisty, witty, caring, compassionate, and nurturing. She especially loved children and spent many years providing daycare and preschool from her home.
Verna is survived by her sister: RuthAnne Schmidt; children: Pamela (Richard) Reynolds, Lynn (Shawn) Hansen, and Jeff (Tracy) Montgomery; grandchildren: Angela Jenkins, Jacob (Candace) Pennington, Curtis (Sally) Dalton, Philip (Camille) Dalton, Brian (Britnie) Dalton, Heather (Jesse) Munoz, Christopher (Anna) Hansen, Stephanie Hansen, and Kody Hansen; eighteen great-grandchildren: Dezarae Jenkins, Kendra (Brandon) Otterstrom, and Breanna (Carlos) Martinez, Cameron and Karsynn Pennington, Alaina, Gus, Jack, Kohler, Addison, and Graham Dalton, Bailey, Lili, Levi, and Ben Dalton, Asher, Teek, Moe, and Mazie Dalton, and Remington Hansen; five great-great-grandchildren: Grayson and Avery Jenkins, Elinore and Alaina Otterstrom, and Andre Martinez.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, beloved daughter Becky Dalton, five brothers: Don, Sherman, Rulon, Joel, and Wayne; three sisters: DeAnn, Connie, and Colleen, and two great-grandchildren: Ashton Peck and Enoch Dalton.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden Utah.
The family would like to especially thank Layton Park Memory Care for the love and care that they provided for Verna for the last several years and Envision Home Health & Hospice for their kindness in keeping her so comfortable in her last days.
