Victor C. Hamberlin, Jr.
WASHINGTON TERRACE a" Victor C. Hamberlin, Jr., beloved father and husband, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009.
He was born June 19, 1917 in Gilmer, Texas, to Victor Carl and Effie Irvin Hamberlin.
Vic married Maurine McKnight, of Gilmer, Texas, on March 20, 1944. Their vows were solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 14, 1952. His dear wife of 48 years preceded him in death November 3, 1992. He married Arlene Atkinson on June 19, 1996. They were later divorced, but had remained very dear friends.
He is a survivor of the World War II Pearl Harbor attack and fought in most major battles including Iwo Jima and Midway. He was present at the signing of the Peace Treaty in Tokyo Bay at the conclusion of the war. He served in the Navy from March 15, 1938 to September 28, 1945. He received 12 Service Medals including the Distinguished Service Medal.
He retired from Defense Depot Ogden on January 6, 1978 after 35 years of service.
Vic always had a smile and he never met a stranger. He was always heard whistling wherever he went. He loved gardening, dancing and traveling.
Surviving are his children, Linda (Mike) Springer, Nancy (Dave) Allcott, Victor M. (Denise) Hamberlin, Betty Ujifusa, and Steven Hamberlin; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Intha Whaley and Ziela Sullivan, both of Texas.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Joe Harris Family.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded.
