Victor John Hamilton

Victor John Hamilton, a beloved son, brother, cherished friend, loyal husband, loving father, devoted grandfather, and proud great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on April 14, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.

Born on December 1, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Alverda Audrey Kirkwood and John Robert Hamilton, Victor was a dedicated learner from an early age. He graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, before attending the University of Utah, the University of Hawaii, and Utah Technical College, where he excelled in electronics and radar technology.

On July 13, 1968, Victor married the love of his life, Linda Nelson. A year later, they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they shared 56-years of marriage that was rooted in faith, love, and devotion. They raised five children, Michael, David (Liz), Barbara (Jason), James (Leslie) and Sherri (David) instilling in them the values of hard work, self-reliance, and unconditional love.

Victor was a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he exemplified Christ-like love in all he did. His strong testimony was reflected in his many church callings, including serving in bishoprics, Sunday School teacher, and Scoutmaster. Later in life, Victor and Linda were called to serve a mission at the Layton Family Search Center, continuing their lifelong commitment to service.

Victor’s devotion to his country was evident in his distinguished military career. He served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force & Air National Guard. Throughout his career, Victor rose to the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt) and dedicated many years to protecting and serving his nation. He retired with honor, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism, sacrifice, and loyalty. His service was a reflection of his deep commitment to something greater than himself, and he carried that pride throughout his life. Victor also worked and retired from Hill Air Force Base, where he formed lifelong friendships.

Victor’s love for scouting began early in life, earning his Eagle Scout and receiving numerous accolades, including the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, and the NESA Outstanding Eagle Award. His service to the Boy Scouts spanned over 50 years, and he was a beloved Scoutmaster to many.

Above all, Victor’s love for his family was his defining trait. He proudly shared stories of his grandchildren’s accomplishments and his growing family, delighting in each new addition. He found joy in hosting game nights filled with laughter, taking his grandkids to yard sales, and serving his community whenever possible.

Victor is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Linda, his sister, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his sister, his sister-in-law, his five children and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, and five great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in all of them.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Amada Senior Home Care and Rocky Mountain Hospice for their exceptional care during Victor’s final days.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 19, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday April 18 from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.

Victor will be laid to rest at the Manti City Cemetery.

Victor will be deeply missed, but his love will remain with us always.
