Vila Hyde Roper East

August 15, 1923 ~ September 1, 2016

Vila Hyde Roper East, 93, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 1, 2016, surrounded by her family.  She was born on August 15, 1923 in Hyde Park, Utah, the youngest daughter of Gloyd Hurren and Ranguild Elise Johnson Hyde.

She married Marvin Jess Roper on September 15, 1942 in Hyde Park, UT.  Marvin passed away on September 2, 1987.  She later married Emmett W. East. They divorced and remained good friends. Vila was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most recently of the South Ogden Third Ward.

Vila had a real zest for life! She enjoyed camping, canning and making candy with her family. She also loved playing Pinochle and Bridge with her friends and enjoyed trips to Wendover – she loved to win! Vila had a real love of music – she kept a standing date with Lawrence Welk every Saturday night. She was also a great gardener with a passion for flowers. Her beautiful yard was admired by many, including the hummingbirds which she loved to watch from her patio. A beautiful woman with impeccable taste, Vila was known for keeping an immaculate home and always looking her best whenever she left the house. She passed her strong values along to her five daughters, whom she loved more than anything. Vila was also adored by her grandchildren – they were her pride and joy! Her beloved cats, Ginger and Mischief, were also a great source of comfort to her and were her constant companions.

Vila will be remembered for her wit, her attention to detail and her strong will. She was a feisty, assertive woman. She never apologized for who she was but was also very loving and tender. Time will not take her away as she will live forever in our hearts.

Vila is survived by her daughters, Rozalyn (Rich) Leavitt, Eugene, OR; Marva Wadman, Ogden, UT; Charlene (Steve) Costley, Billings, MT; Sydnee (Art) Martinez, Centennial, CO; and Lisa Anne Crum, Littleton, CO; 11 grandchildren, including Randy, Raquel, Courtney, Brooke, Jared, Erin, Brandon, Jerrica, Quinn, Colton, and Logan; 19 great-grandchildren; and her loving nieces and nephews, particularly Jean and Dixie with whom she had a special relationship She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin Jess Roper; two grandchildren, Richard and Kristen; her parents, brother, Eldon Hyde; and sisters, Phebe and Avon.
