Virgie Elaine Arnold

LAYTON a€" Virgie Elaine Arnold, 79, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012. It was on a cold, snow blowing day, that a third girl was born to Eva Russell Whitesides on January 24, 1933 in the old Dee Hospital. She named her Virgie Elaine and she followed her two older sisters (Loa Jean Gast and Clarice Gentry) into this world. She had two younger brothers (M. Garth Whitesides and Mark Whitesides).

She lived in Idaho and later returned to Layton. There she met Charles (Bob) Arnold while still in high school. He was in the U.S. Air Force and was willing to go to church with her. They were married on January 27, 1951 in Preston, Idaho. After graduating from Davis High School, the happy couple moved and lived in Texas, Illinois, California, Alaska, England, and New Mexico. Virgie loved living in all these places for 27 years. While in England she was sealed to Bob in the London Temple. She was sealed to Myron and Eve Whitesides in the Manti, Utah Temple.

Virgie was active in scouting for 50 years and was a Silver Beaver. She was a foster parent for Eskimo and Navajo children while in Alaska and Utah. She served as Cub Master and a Girl Scout Leader. She had a wonderful and busy life.

Virgie was preceded in death by her two brothers, Garth and Mark Whitesides, her parents, grandparents William and Ivy Russell and Pratt and Ollie Whitesides, as well as four grandchildren.

Surviving are her four children, Dan Arnold (Becky Robertson), Julia Armga (husband Mike), Reed Arnold (wife Linda Pitchford), and Suzie Packham. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two sisters.

Her mom Eva never realized how large families can become, what a reunion there will be in Heaven.

"Thanks mom and dad for this life. I love you and will see you soon."
