Virginia Louise Haws Allen passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at her home.
She was born July 26, 1940, to Elwood Goodman and Roslyn Cochran Haws, in Ely, Nevada. Virginia was raised in Provo, Utah where she excelled in her school work, graduating with honors from Provo High. After high school she accepted and academic scholarship from Brigham Young University where she met Wayne Luris Allen. At BYU, both Virginia and Wayne were actively involved in the BYU ROTC Program.
Virginia and Wayne were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 11, 1960. They were blessed with five children, Laura (Wengert), Paul, Lisa (Michels), Brian and Kenneth. As a military family, Virginia and Wayne subsequently resided in Colorado, Washington D.C., Taiwan, New York, Utah (while Wayne was deployed in Vietnam), Arizona and their beloved Alaska. After retiring in 1982, Virginia and Wayne returned to Utah where they self-built their dream home in Fruit Heights. Virginia and Wayne have always loved the out-of-doors and with their children enjoyed many, many fishing adventures, both in Alaska and Utah. They particularly loved catching and serving halibut, king salmon, trout and bass.
Virginia has always been totally committed to the Church, serving as president of both the relief society and primary, along with many years as a teacher in the young woman’s organization and Sunday school. She and Wayne have also served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple. Virginia has always been a dedicated and talented genealogist, thus providing many, many names to the temple for proxy ordinance work. Virginia, a perfectionist when it comes to quilting, has provided her daughters and granddaughters with beautiful works of art, which are loved and treasured. Virginia spent many years as a court clerk in the Davis County Justice System, retiring in 2002. She has always loved to garden and enjoyed her fruit and nut trees along with many beautiful flower beds. She specialized in raising grapes and raspberries, thus providing family and friends with delicious grape juice and freezer jam.
Virginia’s beautiful life will be honored at a graveside service at the Provo Cemetery on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 1 p.m.
