Virginia Blackner

Virginia Rea Blackner

March 23, 1937 ~ November 6, 2017

Virginia R. Blackner passed away after a long illness.

Virginia was born in Park City Utah, to William Henry Smith, and Grace Elizabeth Wright Smith. She attended Ogden High School and began work at Hill Air Force Base as key punch operator.

She married Ronald Edward Berrett and later divorced. They had one child, Michael Edward Berrett, she later married Danny Carter Blackner, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Danny passed away in 1967 due to complications arising from a scheduled kidney transplant.

Virginia began work at what was then, Weber State College, she worked in the Audio Visual Lab; these were the happiest days of her life. She eventually returned to Hill Air Force Base and finished her career, retiring in 1997.

Virginia enjoyed many close friendships with her lady friends; she loved concerts, Neil Diamond and Reba McIntyre being her favorites. The Olive Garden was her favorite eatery, but most of all she loved her grandchildren, Brandon, Joshuea, Jordan, Bryson, and Arrianna. She loved to spoil them with everything they wanted.

Virginia is survived by her son, Michael E (Kimberly) Berrett; brothers, Robert W (Jolean) Smith, and John E (Jill) Smith; and her beloved grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her best friend, and sister, Patricia (Doug) Cave.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Danny.  Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
