Virginia Done Dowden

January 27, 1919 ~ January 27, 2018

Our loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away Saturday January 27, 2018, on her 99th birthday.  She got to celebrate with her family here on earth and in heaven.

Virginia and her twin brother, Paul, were born January 27, 1919 to Joseph Forbes Done and Gladys Grose Done in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She attended East High School and Westminster College.  On June 3, 1937, she married Charles F. Dowden, Jr. in Salt Lake City.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Charles and Virginia moved to Layton in 1954, where she resided for the rest of her life.

They were blessed with three hardworking sons; Gary L. Dowden (deceased); Lamont F. Dowden (Patricia, deceased) Layton, Utah; Marvin D. Dowden (Marianne), West Haven, Utah, grandchildren Rick Dowden (Martha), Randy Dowden (deceased) (Lourdes); Adam Dowden (Mindy); Katie Nicholson (Shelly); Heather Young (Jacob).  She also leaves behind 10 great- grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.  She loved her family very much and they loved her.  She will be truly missed.

Mom was a faithful member of the LDS church and fulfilled many callings over the years.  She volunteered at Davis Hospital for over 30 years and loved every minute.  She knitted hundreds of booties for the newborn babies born around Christmas.  She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and volunteered at the museum in Salt Lake City.  Mom loved music  and especially playing the piano.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, son Gary; daughter-in-law Patricia; grandson Randy; her parents; twin brother Paul; sisters, Phyllis Carlson and Dorothy Simons.

We would like to thank the staff at Rocky Mountain Care Center and Hospice for the loving way they took care of mom for the last 2-1/2 years .
