VIRGINIA L. PETTIT COLLINS HOLE KING

September 9, 1932 – September 4, 2017

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Virginia L. King passed away peacefully on the morning of September 4, 2017, following a noble battle with cancer over the past four years. Virginia was surrounded by family hours before her passing and her husband, John King of Idaho Falls, was by her side when she passed at 3:25 a.m.

Virginia is survived by her husband, John, sons Rick Collins (Gail) and Craig Hole (Joanne) of Utah, 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. A native of Kansas, Virginia moved to Idaho Falls in 2001. She met and married John in 2005 and together they served in many capacities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), including in their home ward, the Woodruff 1st Ward.

In her early years, Virginia grew up on her parents’ farm in Allen County, Kansas. She attended school at the one-room Salem schoolhouse before moving into the nearby town of Iola, Kansas, at age 12. Virginia was very active in school activities and earned a spot on the cheerleading squad, which was an amazing accomplishment after having suffered from polio as a child. In addition to her physical talents, Virginia was named prom queen, homecoming queen, and received similar honors multiple times. She was also a good student.

The year after her high school graduation Virginia moved with her family to Wichita, KS, in 1951.  Virginia worked in clerical positions at Boeing Aircraft for 23 years while raising her sons with former spouse, Arnold L. “Sam” Hole, originally from Kincaid, KS, who now lives in Idaho Falls. Virginia returned to Iola in the 1990’s to care for her mother during her final years before her mother passed in 2000. While living in Iola, Virginia was active in community affairs and for a time served as the President of the Iola Chamber of Commerce.

Virginia was preceded in death by her father, George Willis Pettit, mother S. Opal Pearman Pettit, both of Iola, Kansas, and her brother, Willis Pettit, of Kansas City, MO.
