Virginia Holt Mitchell
RIVERDALE a" Virginia Holt Mitchell, 96 A½, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012. She was born May 15, 1915 in South Jordan, Utah to Henry and Bertha Virginia Wardle Holt. The second of six children, five girls and one boy.
Virginia married Willis James Mitchell on April 25, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away October 20, 1993.
She graduated from Jordan High School and attended LDS Business College and BYU. She worked as a secretary for Roy Jr. High School so she could be home when her children were there.
After Willis retired, they traveled through Europe, Israel and South America with BYU Travel Study. She was active in the LDS Church. Callings included Sunday School, Young Womens, Relief Society President, a mission with her husband to Calgary, Canada, Church Service Missionary at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake and Ogden Temple Ordinance worker.
She enjoyed "quilting" at the Senior Center and gardening. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was proud of her pioneer heritage.
Most important was her family. She did everything to keep them close together.
Surviving are one daughter, Virginia Ann (Lloyd) Austin, St. George; and two sons, Clifton James (Sara) Mitchell, West Point; and Drew Holt (Lori) Mitchell, Washington Terrace; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and also her two sisters, Alice Mazuran and Maxine Sharp.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Nona Smith and Bernice Simpson and one brother Darrell Holt, and one great-granddaughter, Wendy Virginia Francheska Austin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
