Virginia Ann Wall, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Layton, Utah, on November 19, 2024. Born on February 12, 1941, in Salt Lake City, she was the eldest child of Lewis Alonzo Garrett and Rhoana Judd Garrett. Virginia grew up in Salt Lake City and was a proud graduate of East High School’s Class of 1959, where she met her high school sweetheart, Venoy. They were married on September 11, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in faith.
After high school, Virginia turned down a scholarship to the University of Utah to raise a family, later returning to school in Kentucky to pursue her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. With the support of her children, she earned her RN degree and began her career in nursing. Virginia spent 20 years working in the labor and delivery department at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. One of her proudest achievements was helping to establish the Share Program, which provided crucial support for mothers experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death.
Throughout her life, Virginia’s faith was central to her actions. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many church callings, always eager to help others. Together with her husband, Venoy, she served as a temple worker in the Chicago Illinois Temple, and their shared service brought joy and fulfillment to both of them. Virginia’s loving and giving heart was evident to all who knew her, as she was always ready to uplift others.
In 2000, after retiring, Virginia and Venoy returned to Utah to be closer to Virginia’s aging parents. They settled in Layton, where Virginia continued to serve her family and community. In her downtime, Virginia loved to immerse herself in novels or unwind by watching TV shows like Madam Secretary and Perry Mason. Throughout her life, she also cherished the opportunity to travel the world, marveling at the beauty of God’s creations.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Steve (Janet), and her grandson Ryan. She is survived by her caregiver husband, Venoy, and their five children: Michael, Gary (Shelly), Ruthann (Bob), Carolyn (Shawn), and Cathy; her brother William (Karyn); 10 grandchildren, who added sparkle to her eyes and a smile to her face: Laura, Alene (James), Jordan (Mercedes), Garrett, Ashley (Brandan), Rachel (Zach), Tyler, Madi, Peyton, and Jackson; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Virginia’s legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations. She will be remembered not only for her devoted service to her family and community but also for the kindness and joy she brought to all those around her.
