Vivan Donald Simmons
1933 ~ 2013
Vivan Donald Simmons passed away suddenly, Sunday, May 5, 2013 in his home in Layton, Utah.
He was born September 26, 1933 to Vivan Theodore and Ethel Irene Smart Simmons. He was the first of six children.
He graduated from Jordan High School in 1951. He later graduated from Weber State College. He served in the U.S. Army for six years.
Donald married LaFay Dansie in the Salt Lake Temple February 5, 1960. He worked at HAFB for 37 years.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ was the center of his life. He served a mission as a young man and another with his wife. He filled many callings including serving in three Bishoprics.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycles, camping and photography.
He is survived by his wife, LaFay, and his children, LaDawn (Jim) Swensen Moon, Shawn (Patricia) and Lon (Stefanie); his grandchildren, Amberlee (Dave) Orme, Adam (Elise) Swensen, Alex (Tessa) Swensen; Monica, Michael, and Kimberly Simmons; Elizabeth, Joseph, Hannah, and James Simmons. Siblings: Elmer (Joann) Simmons, Marian Wanner, Carolyn Martin, Eileen (Jay) Taylor and Debra (Gordon) Larsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Arlee Swensen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Kays Creek Stake Center, 2680 E. Cherry Lane, Layton. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
