Vivien Joyce Dean Boyington

December 13, 1928 — December 26, 2024

“Mrs. B” - Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Vivien Joyce Dean Boyington, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born on December 13, 1928, to William Edward Dean and Helen Roberta Hufstettler Dean. She married Delbert Lavon Boyington on February 2, 1952, and together they had nine children.

Vivien graduated from Ogden High School, attended Weber State College and graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Education.

She had an amazing career teaching and coaching young women at many schools throughout the Utah area for 37 years. She coached volleyball, track, softball and basketball, winning many championships and making a lasting positive impact on the lives of those she taught. She was a Physical Education instructor as well as a Cheerleader and Pep Club advisor. One of her greatest joys was coaching her son Kents, adult men’s softball team.

Vivien touched so many lives during her years teaching and as a coach. A quote that exemplifies Vivien’s impact on others; “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. While others stay and leave footprints in our hearts and we are never, ever the same.”

Vivien was an avid golfer and the Women’s Association President for many years at Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course. At the age of 95, Vivien was still able to golf with her grandsons, sons-in-law, and close friends.

She always had a strong love of music, reading and spending time with family. She enjoyed sporting events, plays and concerts, especially attending those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Until her final illness, she still rode her indoor bike two miles a day. She took great pride in having a beautiful flower garden each year filled with rose bushes her children planted with her.

In her younger years, her hobbies included ballroom dancing with her husband and playing sports.

Vivien was a woman of joy who always had a twinkle in her blue eyes. Spending time with her was always a special occasion. Her spunky nature, sense of humor and stories of the past always brightened your day, especially her expression of “Bumper Sticker” which those closest to her will understand.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Viven is survived by her eight children, Becky (Rich) Shaw-Freeman, Kathy Kelson, Craig Boyington, Jan (Mike) Reney, Kristy (John) Arko, Kent D. (Teresa) Boyington, Lori (Dennis) Wood, and Kirk Boyington; and her sisters, Dorothy Roberta Dean, Francis Biederman, and Norma Kay Dean. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; a son, Mark; granddaughter, Nicole; her parents; four sisters, Helen Margaret Weaver, Mildred N. Pierson, Cecilia Marian Heninger and Barbara Vlaanderen; and two brothers, William Robert Dean and Edward E. Dean.

The siblings would like to extend their deep appreciation to Kirk, Kadee, Jannael, Ashley, and Shay who helped take special care of mom during her final days. They would like to thank her neighbors, Charlotte Jensen, Jennifer Jensen, Ellis and Katelyn Swenson, and Ricardo and Kara Saucedo for their love and care for Mom. They would also like to extend appreciation to Canyon Home Care and Hospice and her caregivers, Melissa, Mindy, and Sidney.
