He was born August 27, 1937 in Levan, Utah to Harold and Lucille Warner. On March 16, 1962, Von married Marilyn Davis in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a loving and devoted husband, and a fun supportive father and grandfather.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in the Great Lakes Mission and various other callings.
Von loved the outdoors, especially when it involved his children and grandchildren. He loved fishing, camping, cycling, skiing and backpacking. He was a skilled artificial fly-tyer and was often able to ''match the hatch''. He loved building and flying model airplanes. He was a founding member of the Northern Utah Radio Control Airplane Club (NURCAC). He was an active member of the Society of Antique Modelers (SAM) and won the Ed Roberts Texaco (endurance) trophy in 2005. He was happiest when he would fly his old-timer models in warm rising air. He was a skilled woodworker. He loved music and played the clarinet in the University of Utah marching band.
