SOUTH OGDEN a" With deep gratitude and love we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Vonda Wood Yarbrough passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 surrounded by her two daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We found great joy, love and peace being with our mother during the last few days and weeks of her life. We as a family received wonderful comfort in the knowledge of the joyous reunion that awaited her.
Vonda was born on January 14, 1929, the fourth of eight children and the third of four daughters of Clifford and Gertrude Willey Wood. Her childhood was spent in Layton. She proudly graduated from Davis High School Class of 1947. Vonda attended Utah State University where she mastered the sport of bowling with her top score being in the 20''s, yes 20''s, one last tease Mom.
She met Ted Yarbrough at Hill Air Force Base while working as a secretary. They married and were blessed with two beautiful daughters. They later divorced.
Mom had a great flair for life which she shared with her family and friends. Mom loved her parties. She was known for her 4th of July pool parties and her much anticipated annual Christmas party, the most recent on December 22, 2009. Vonda was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She served in numerous positions in the sorority including president, which allowed her to provide service to the community. Mom''s flair also included charming personal taste.
She was a lifelong faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving as Primary teacher and president, in the Relief Society presidency and a faithful Visiting Teacher.
Surviving are her two devoted daughters, Teresa (Paul) Orton, Denver, CO; Jennifer (John) Williams, South Jordan; nine grandchildren, Shaun, Shayla, Ashley, Ryan, Chelsea, Adam, Elyse, Brennan and Laurel; four great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, one sister, Amy Jean Sanders, three brothers, Lynn, Calvin and Brent Wood, and numerous nieces and nephews.
