On Saturday January 9, 2021, Wade Blanchard Draper, 71, passed through this earthly veil after a brave yet brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Wade was a New Year’s Baby, he was the first baby born in Payson Hospital on January 1, 1950. He was the 3rd son of Grandon LuRay and Lorna Blanchard Draper. Wade was reared in Genola Utah with five brothers, one sister and numerous cousins that were as much his brothers and sisters.
He graduated Payson High School in 1968 and pursued a degree at Utah Technical College (now UVU) in Provo. He then accepted a job at Hill Air Force Base. Wade enjoyed a wonderful career working in the hangers wiring airplanes and then as a quality control equipment specialist. He retired from HAFB in 2007.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served various callings including ward executive secretary for numerous years.
He married his High School Sweetheart, Allyn Draper in the Manti Temple on May 29, 1970. His pride and joy was his family. He loved Allyn, Jake & Dallas and three amazing grandkids. Prior to his sickness, he never missed a game, a dance recital or competition. He was a quiet fixture on many bleachers in the back proudly watching and cheering kids on. Wade would patiently sit for hours and hours waiting for a couple 2 minute performances, never complaining and always willing to help out. He was always willing to “save the day” by picking up or dropping off grandkids at their various activities or Jake’s crazy projects. Behind the scenes he built thousands of trophies.
Wade loved the outdoors, he spent days riding horses and ATV’s in the mountains. He loved to go boating and taught many people how to waterski and knee-board.
Wade is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Allyn; his only son, Jake (Dallas) West Haven and three amazing grandkids, Oakley, Cade and Bentley; brother’s, Lloyd (Judy) Draper, Highland, UT: Roger (Lynette) Draper, Shelly, ID; Clair (Holly) Draper, Genola, UT;. a sister in-law, Kathy Draper; and lots of nieces and nephews that he was their favorite Uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents, LuRay and Lorna Draper, younger sister, Hazel and older brother, Richard.
