Wallace F Crook, “Gramps” left us to join his sweetheart on March 25, 2021. He was born to Jessie Lorene Campbell and William “Bill” Crook on June 3, 1940 in Heber City, Utah. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah. While sitting in his seventh-grade art class, a young woman walked in and he fell in love, he knew that he just saw the woman he would marry. It took a few more years for Barbara Ann Wright to realize the guy with the “big ears” was to be her eternal sweetheart. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 13, 1958. They lived in Bountiful, Morgan (on his dream farm) and Layton, Utah.
Wally and Barbara (Grandma Bob) were quite the pair. They were strong where the other was weak. Gramps loved Grandma Bob so much that he spoiled her whenever he had the chance. They enjoyed square dancing, gardening, and watching the birds in their backyard. He was a master electrician and served as superintendent at the North Davis Sewer District. He was proud of his service on the Morgan and DATC School boards.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wally was proud to serve at the Family and Church History Headquarters mission in Salt Lake City.
Gramps loved music and often found listening to the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square or Adele. In his last moments of life, Emily, a hospice musical therapist, sang and played songs from the past and LDS hymns. His daughter and granddaughter joined her for the final song, “I Am a Child of God.” He left this earthly life during the last verse of the song-“If I but learn to do his will—I’ll live with him once more.” His life was an example of learning to do His will and being like Christ. He loved everyone and everyone loved him.
Wally is survived by his children, Cindy (LJ) Brewer, Monica (Zeke) Swander, Andrea (Rich) Stuart, and Spencer Crook, his siblings, Carrolyn Burningham, Joy (Craig) Tuckett and Denny (Kathryn) Andersen. Gramps was loved by all of his 15 grandchildren (Amber, Will, Alyson, Lauren, Danny, Beth, Michelle, Katy, Krista, Scott, Rachel, Will, Easton, McKenna and Katie) and 22 great grandchildren. He was lucky to have 4 bonus grandchildren (Justin (deceased), Danielle, Byron, Cameron) and their 4 children. He was welcomed with a joyful reunion with his sweetheart Barbara, son Steven, his parents, brother-in-law Stephen Burningham and sister-in-law Lucinda Andersen and other family and friends.
SURE…DO…LOVE YOU!!!
Our family would like to thank Todd Gardner who stuck with him doing physical therapy for years, as well as the CNAs, nurses, Chaplin, and social workers at South Davis Home Health and Hospice for their care and support. Thank you Mercedes and Sam for brightening his life and home this past year. Special thanks to granddaughter Michelle that could always make him smile. He was lucky to have his three daughters and a son-in-law living so close to him because together they were able to care for their dad full-time for the last year of his life.
